My Summer Camp

Hello readers! This summer I went to my first camp ever: a transportation/engineering camp at my local university, MSU (Montana State University). As you might guess from the name of the camp, I learned mostly about the different kinds of transportation. I learned from one end of the scale to the other; from going on an airplane ride (my first ever, so that was really, really cool!) to learning about the different layers they use to make a road.

It was great because I discovered that I never want to become a traffic engineer! It’s tedious and boring work, let me tell you! We also learned a little bit about the different kinds of engineering, most of which I already knew; but it was a good refresher.

There were eighteen other kids besides my sister and myself. It was fun playing with them in the evenings and talking with them during our extensive walks through campus.

As I already mentioned, we went on an airplane ride! It was so amazing! We also went on a ferry ride on the Missouri river, built our own bridges out of balsa wood and we also built our own gliders! My bridge almost held a 5-gallon bucket of water (40 pounds)! It was pretty cool.

On our last night we had a water balloon fight. I tied about 300 water balloons! My hands looked like raisins by the time I was finished. It was all gone in the matter of a minute, but it was totally worth it! I was soaked!

Overall, it was pretty awesome! I’d do it again if it wasn’t for the food! I’m used to Mom’s homemade awesomeness, so you can imagine how I felt!

The only drawback was that I missed the Republican convention. I’m a super Trump supporter, so it was a bummer. But I saw all the speeches on YouTube when I got back, so that made up for it.

Tell me what you think of my summer adventure in your comments!

        1. That’s so cool! Yes, I play the classical guitar. I can play a tiny bit of piano, a little bit of harmonica and I can twiddle out a made-up melody on a flute, but I wouldn’t consider that playing!

          1. Cool, well hopefully, if you continue playing, you’ll get WAY better. I’ve been playing piano for 6 years and flute for three so I had a lot of time to perfect and practice. My sister’s been playing violin for 8 years. Now that’s a long time!

          2. Whew! That is a long time! I’ve been playing guitar for two years. Not quite long enough to be great at it. My weakness is my right hand (the hand I strum with). My left hand is good, but it’s hard to find the rhythm for the right hand and get it right. Like everything else, it takes practice! I bet you play pretty good!

          3. I guess I’m good but there’s always room for improvement. I really like my piano teacher, she’s very nice. My flute teacher is “wow nice.” He gives me lessons for free. That’s extremely nice of him. He’s old though and retired, so I guess he can. My dad plays guitar with chords. I tried to learn it but it’s not my thing. Stringed instruments in general aren’t my thing. Do you like reading Ashley? I love reading. I’m currently re-reading the Harry Potter books. For like the seventh time. XD

          4. That’s great! My dad taught me how to play guitar, which was great because he was always there to help me improve. I love reading! I don’t read fiction anymore, which I miss sometimes, but I read a lot of non-fiction books anyway, so it’s not bad. Right now I’m reading a biography of John Adams by David McCullough. He also wrote a book called 1776, which I highly recommend. I read a lot of my books over and over again. We have a four-book history set and I’ve read them over at least four times! I’m a history buff, so that kind of stuff is like reading a fictional story.

          5. I love historical fiction, mystery, fantasy and adventure. The two non-fiction books I love are The only pirate at the party and I am Malala but those are more recent. You probably haven’t heard of the first one as it is the autobiography of a violin player called Lindsey Stirling, but maybe you’ve heard of the second? I really like that book. You should read it if you haven’t already. I also love Lord of the Rings, Narnia, Percy Jackson and Warriors.

          6. Yes! They are so good too. I’m trying to read the Lord of the Rings a second time. I’m still on #1 still. And I think only on chapter one. I’m usually not that slow, I’m actually a fast reader. Do you live in the city? I live on a farm.

          7. I know, right? Most movies are way worse than the books ( as in differing from the story), but the LOTR movies are awesome! I’m a fast reader too. I live in a small town. I wish I lived on a farm! You’re very lucky! Do you have horses?

          8. We used to borrow one from friends and she’ll probably be back this fall. Her name’s Luna and she’d kinda old. We have goats, sheep, cows, chickens, ducks, geese, a dog, a cat and a bunny. The dog the cat and the bunny are pets, we also have a parakeet.

          9. Sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner. Yesterday me and my family went to the state capitol farmer’s market in Bismarck. I made pizzelles. As well as flower arrangements but that was with my younger sis. My older sister made cookies. Altogether I made 69 dollars. It was so fun!

          10. That’s awesome!! In June and July I sold bread at my local farmer’s market every week. It was fun! I love interacting with people, so that was a plus. You sound like you’re rich now!

          11. Haha, well I’m not a millionaire but it was a good haul. I am saving my money but for what I don’t know. Maybe a car. A trip to see friends out of our state. I really don’t know. I’m just saving it. XD

          12. I totally understand. I’m saving my money for ski season. A ski pass and maybe a new pair of skis by January or February. In my opinion, if you don’t know what you want to do with your money, save it. You never know when you might need it.

          13. Yeah, exactly. My sister’s birthday is coming up too so I have to get her a present. It’s actually in like a week. I really should get her present soon. Before it’s too late. Well I’m making part of it. And the other part is gonna be bought.

    1. Hi, Odessa!
It was SO AWESOME! I loved every second. We were ten minutes in the air (which was way too short) and it felt like ten seconds, literally. I’ve always wanted to fly, so it was great! I’m sure you’d love it.

P.S. I love your blog! Where did you get that horse picture? ๐Ÿ˜€
